What We Do

Through the Risk Management process, we incorporate subject-specific expertise with the experience and professional knowledge from every level of TFD.

The SPIFi Team is working to reduce the number, severity and overall costs of injuries through focused wellness, fitness, and prevention programs in the Tucson Fire Department.  We cover areas specific to health and safety, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, health promotion, epidemiology, health economics, biostatistics and many more.

Our proactive and systematic approach to risk management aims to:

  • Help improve decision making in the workplace
  • Focus attention and resources on the most significant hazards
  • Enable everyone to better anticipate and mitigate risk.

The first nine control strategies developed through the risk management process are being implemented during 2011-2012:

Check out Project News for semi-regular updates on the injury prevention strategies being rolled-out to the workforce.

Evaluation
Evaluation of these control strategies is ongoing. We expect the SPIFi risk management process and resulting intervention strategies will serve as a model for other fire departments and industry, so input and feedback is ongoing.
